To Welcome Spring/Summer 09, we all decided to go hiking in the Santa Monica Hills in Malibu.. Fairly simple, but 3 hour roundtrip hike.. Thanks to Roshan for the awesome pics.. Check ‘em out HERE ..
2 weeks ago I completed 28 years of my life with multiple celebrations.. Leena, Suneetha, Maneesh, Mandy and Sherina planned the night before my birthday with yummy cake and mojitos.. I spent the actual birthday with Mom and Brij at dinner.. The following weekend Sherina and I drove down to LA to celebrate my birthday with Dushyant, Akhil and Karishma plus attend Dushyant’s Fund Raiser for his Marathon.. We partied Friday night at Standard Downtown which was absolutely beautiful and then partied again until wee hours Saturday at Kimi’s house for the Fund Raiser.. And the weekend after I celebrated with friends in DC.. So, here’s all the pics… Enjoy..
This past Sunday, Mandy, Leena and I went to Sacramento for White Water Rafting in the American River.. After a bumpy start, we finally made it into the campground where we were taking off from.. And instead of yelling at us for keeping ‘em waiting long, the other rafters welcomed us by a group effort of throwing water at us with their paddles.. The whole trip down the river was absolutely awesome.. We all jumped out of the rafts one by one to take a dip in the cold water to relieve ourselves from the heat.. But, the highlight of the whole trip was definitely me catapulting across on top of Mandy in the air and then in the water.. Here are some more Pics..
On Saturday, Mandy/Leena, Maneesh/Sunitha and I (and of course our dear doggy Zulu) woke up real early to go hiking to Mission Peak in the Fremont hills.. It was a 6 mile hike, and took us 2.5 hours uphill and an hour down.. The hike was not that difficult but wasn’t too easy either.. You can see the full hike trail in the picture below.. And here are some more pics..
My brother Brij is visiting, and along with mom, we three took off for a long drive down PCH to Santa Cruz. This drive ended up becoming an extremely breathtaking one, and we captured a lot of these views thanks to our Iphones.. PICS
This past weekend on Sunday, Shank, Didi and I took the Bart up to the city to check out San Francisco’s famous Air Show which we had heard so much about.. And it totally lived up to it’s reputation.. We were treated with amazing stunts by various aircrafts including the Blue Angels.. A set of 6 Boeing Hornets performing absolutely crazy stunts in the air right above the bay water and right next to the Golden Gate bridge.. The best according to all 3 of us was the Sonic Boom that one of the planes created.. A Sonic Boom is a phenomenon which is created in the air when the plane crosses the threshold of the speed of sound.. There is a round ring of smoke that is created the moment the plane crosses the threshold, and it’s quite an exciting thing to watch.. Unfortunately I couldn’t capture it on video, but you can see one here http://youtube.com/watch?v=-d9A2oq1N38. I did however manage to get some awesome crossover stunts by the planes… Here are some Pics
To celebrate my birthday, Shank took me to Las Vegas this past weekend.. It was a short but great trip as we covered most of the casinos, and caught a Cirque du Soleil Opera called O at Bellagio which was one of the most incredible shows I have ever seen in my life… http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/CirqueDuSoleil/en/showstickets/o/o-Las-Vegas.htm The stage of the Auditorium transformed into a pool, a very deep pool as the acrobats jumped from 100 ft high into the water, and then would transform back into a regular stage in minutes.. The synchronized swimming and the trapeze acts were just spell binding!!
We stayed at the MGM Grand which itself was so overwhelmingly huge, that Shank and I were quite lost in it.. LOL.. We enjoyed their massive buffets which we had been highly advised to experience.. Here’s the view from our room..
We saw New York New York first which is a replica of the city and has this massive rollercoaster which goes all around it.. And obviously Shank and I had to ride it.. It was great! Here’s a pic of the hotel and the roller coaster..
Next we saw Paris which is a replica of Paris, France of course.. It has a Eiffel Tower replica which is exactly half the size of the real one.. We also got Margaritas in the Eiffel Tower cups, and the best part of Vegas is you can drink on the road or anywhere you please.. LOL! Check out these pics, and also the margarita cup.. Yes it was quite heavy! LOL
Then we also visited the tallest hotel of all The Strastosphere which is a 1200 ft tall hotel, and has a lounge on the very top where you can eat etc.. But, Shank and I obviously decided to go ride their scariest ride “The Big Shot” which is a free fall ride that throws you up with 3x the Gravity and then throws you down and goes on.. The feeling is like you are in the air with the lit up Vegas below as this ride is at the very top tip of the hotel.. Check out these videos of the ride and the view from the top..
The next day we checked out Venetian which I thought was one of the most beautiful hotels in Vegas.. This one is a replica of Venice and has a canal that runs inside the hotel with the fancy boats just like Venice.. The art work and sculptures were absolutely exquisite.. Here’s some pics..
On our way back, we tried to capture a video of how Vegas looks at night from a plane, and then how all this light and brightness disappears in minutes as the city is surrounded by deserts for miles and miles.. Look out for the Bright Green building thats MGM Grand..
This last Sunday we went to San Francisco city’s Stern Grove Park for one of their free summer concerts.. This one being Anushka Shankar with Karsh Kale.. I had never heard of Karsh before but was super impressed by his skills.. He is an awesome percussionist, and kept everyone on their toes.. Anushka along with the flute player, mridangam player and the vocalist were always really good… There was one of the composers from medieval pundits who had added his flavor to all of the Anushka’s songs which gave them a great fusion feel… The park itself was crazy.. And the way it was organized was awesome.. We had a great time!!
